From 1/2-mile walks for the novice hiker to 5-mile treks that lead to other trails that go on and on into the wilderness… you will not only get a great workout, but will encounter spectacular mountain scenery and a variety of wildlife!

Short one- Giant Fir Tree Trail The trail will be found at the end of Bever Creek Reservoir, on the left side maked "The Fir".Difficulty: Easy to Moderate,Distance: 1/2 mile. Toby says- Can't miss trail head, starts with a gravel footpath and wooden stair way. Seem's like longer than 1/2 mostly upill. The tree really amazing even the roots, many other large trees close by. Anywhere at reservoir is great for pinicing and fishing.
Crater Lake or Continal Divide trail- From South Fork, go West on Hwy 160 8 miles to Park Creek/Summitville Road. Proceed up the road approximately 15 miles where there is a “y” stay to the right taking road #380 (this is also the road to Platoro) Proceed about 3 1/2 to 4 miles on #380 you will pass the Elwood Pass jeep road on the right. Continue along until you see the Crater Lake trail marker. Follow the trail and after about a mile up hill you reach the junction of Continiental Divide Trail.Toby says- To crater lake you start at 11,600 up to 12,300 at CTD then down to 11,000 at Lake, boy it is worth it. Biggest fish but hard to catch. Or stay high and make a left at CTD and try Long treck Mountain for unbelievable views!
Lobo To Big Meadows- Toby says- Leave a car at Big Meadows Lake, Drive up to Lobo Lookout at the top of Wolf Creek Pass. Hike CTD to Archuleta Lake Tail and to Big Meadows. 15 miles but mostly down hill! Toby says, I love this long all day hike. Stunning views East and west from CDT, pass three Alpine Lakes, the follow Archuleta creek down to Big Meadow Lake and the drop off car.
Alder Bench Trail. Take 149 (towards Creede) after crossing river take CR 15 1/2 miles left at Alder creek sign, go about 21/2 miles to Alder Creek Gaurd Staion Trail 799 starts there. Toby says- Little bit steep as you traverce up the bench great view up the canyon, and of Kern's Thumb. This where Freemount's 4th expectition came down, Kern thier artist painted a rock outcropping, availble in office. A little scrambling will get up top of bench!
Big Meadows Lake- Take the trail around the Lake, lots of good fishing along the way. Toby says- 1/2 way round take a like stroll up Archuleta Creek Trail, it's almost right next the lovely creek.
